Service Description
This 4 Day Assessment is for those candidates that have previously attended the Rock Climbing and Abseil Leader Training Course. The training course must be taken in order to be eligible to attend the assessment course. As with all of the RAKTDA Courses, there is NO EXEMPTION from the Training Course. For the purposes of this scheme, a single pitch route is: A route that can be climbed without intermediate stances. A route which is described as a single pitch in the guidebook. A route that will allow climbers to be lowered to the ground at all times, is non-tidal and has little objective danger. A route that presents no difficulties on approach or retreat, such as route finding, scrambling or navigating. A route, that for the purpose of lead climbing, is a bolted sport route. (Trad routes are not within the scope of this award). Exclusions: The scheme does not cover: General mountaineering. Multi-pitch rock climbing. Teaching lead climbing skills using traditional route protection. Access to tidal sea cliffs or any other location where retreat is not easily possible. Pre-Assessment Consolidation: After the training course. you must have an up to date logbook with additional evidence of the following: 10 Personal Lead routes at minimum grade of F4, which must be OUTDOOR bolt protected graded rock climbs. 10 Personal Lead routes at minimum grade of F4, at an INDOOR climbing wall. 5 Personal abseils within an OUTDOOR crag environment. 5 GROUP abseils under supervision of a fully qualified instructor. 5 GROUP climbing sessions under supervision of a fully qualified instructor. During the assessment, the candidate should be fully aware of all subjects and topics covered in the training course and course materials. The Assessor will not only ask questions around these topics but the candidate will need to give demonstrations of techniques, including personal skill in all areas, group safety and management, and include fundamental rescue scenarios commonly found under the scope of this award criteria. A variety of locations will be used. Participants must attend each day in order to gain a pass for the assessment. Participants will be informed of the results at the conclusion of the assessment as either Pass, Defer or Fail. End of course reviews with the course instructor will inform the participant of this result and of any future actions, if required.
