The Dry Canyoneering Training Course, is a RAKTDA accredited scheme, developed and administered by Hajar Mountain Adventures, the ONLY organisation to be given permission to run these RAKTDA certified courses in the UAE, which would allow license application. This 4 day training course is based around the core skills required in moving around abseil multi-pitched dry canyons (no water). COURSE CONTENT: Logistics and safety Environment and ethics Pre-trip preparations Client safety and briefings Navigation and topos Canyon safety and leadership Group management Rope handling Equipment usage and care Rope work and knots Anchors and rigging Signals and communications Clients safety Protocols and systems Abseiling and rescue scenarios Emergency rope techniques Successful completion of this course will give you the skills to venture out canyoning safely, and is also a pre-requisite for the Dry Canyoneering Leader Assessment. OBJECTIVE: Provide training for students to acquire the fundamental canyoneering skills necessary to be able to competently a lead a group into canyons (dry gorges/wadi descents) rated up to, and including 3A/B PG III and assist with supervised introduction to technical canyoneering skills. Through training and mentoring, increase of technical personal skill sets and expanded situational awareness through the introduction to group leadership roles, associated technical skills and instructional techniques, the candidate can progress onto assessment, where they can operate independently. Pre-Requisites: Be able to rig and load an abseil and use various descending techniques. Be able to tie figure 8 (on the bite and rethreaded), munter/ Italian hitch (and be able to tie off), tape knot, no knot. alpine butterfly, clove hitch. Have a solid understanding of map-reading and topography (ideally have completed a recognised Mountain Leader Award). Be comfortable in a mountain environment using scrambling, down climbing and free climbing skills. Note: This is a training course; for leaders to work UNSUPERVISED they must complete post training consolidation experience and successfully PASS AN ASSESSMENT course. POST TRAINING COURSE - PRE ASSESSMENT CRITERIA: Minimum 5 Personal Canyoneering Trips Minimum 5 Group Canyoneering Trips (under supervision of fully qualified instructor) Wilderness First Aid Trained Course (Minimum 16hrs).
