Service Description
The Dry Canyoneering Assessment Course, is a RAKTDA accredited scheme, developed and administered by Hajar Mountain Adventures, the ONLY organisation to be given permission to run these RAKTDA certified courses, which would allow license application. This 4 day ASSESSMENT is based around the demonstration of the core skills required in moving around abseil pitched dry canyons (no water). The candidate will need extensive knowledge and skills and will be assessed on all aspects of the course content, which will cover all the essential aspects such as logistics and safety, the environment and ethics, pre-trip preparations, client safety and briefings, navigation and topos, in canyon safety and leadership, group management, rope handling and equipment usage and care, rope work and knots, anchors and rigging, signals and communications, clients safety protocols and systems, abseiling and rescue scenarios, emergency rope techniques and canyon leadership. During the assessment, the candidate should be fully aware of all subjects and topics covered in the training course and course materials. The Assessor will not only ask questions around these topics but the candidate will need to give demonstrations of techniques, including personal skill in all areas, group safety and management, and include technical rescue scenarios which can be found under the scope of this award criteria. A variety of locations will be used. Participants must attend each day in order to gain a pass for the assessment. Participants will be informed of the results at the conclusion of the assessment as either Pass, Defer or Fail. End of course reviews with the course instructor will inform the participant of this result and of any future actions, if required. Pre-Requisites: Attended the Canyon Leader Training Course Completed The Canyon Leader Training Course Skills Consolidation POST TRAINING COURSE - PRE ASSESSMENT CRITERIA: Minimum 5 Personal Canyoneering Trips Minimum 5 Group Canyoneering Trips (under supervision of fully qualified instructor) Wilderness First Aid Trained Course (Minimum 16hrs).
